One hundred and twenty years ago Rainer Maria Rilke received a letter from a young poet named Kappus with his life problems and a particular deep sorrow. Rilke was around 28 at that time. He wrote a letter back not consoling the young man but rather saying honest truth. He talks about how the only way to grow is to sit with this pain. He talks about solitude and the difficulty of love. It spoke volumes to me, personally. It’s clear that for thousands of years, the problems of humans have been the same: not enough love.
